Stealing Moments

Stealing time, just a few seconds
To breathe in the morning air,
It’s that time in the morn
When the mist rolls in
That creates an atmosphere

With nothing yet stirring
And no-one yet awake,
The birds are barely chirping
And the day is mine to take

On days like these I stand there
With the hope of a fresh new day,
Making plans and dreams and wishes
Unspoken can’t be taken away

But as the sun begins to rise,
Burning mist and waking day
So to with dawn I realise,
Today is just another day

With bitter realisation
I recall my limitations
Shedding plans for near misses
I step back from all my wishes

A renewed smile to start the day
I give myself a shake,
Stealing early morning moments
The day is still mine to take
