On That Day

On that day,
I watched your face,
Tongue tied and twisted,
As I met your gaze.

In that moment,
My hopes were raised,
In that second,
You seemed quite un-fazed.

And as we talked,
I read your thoughts too soon,
Your eyes – the tell,
Words unspoken – that June.

Put your arms around me,
Protect me with your kiss,
Don’t say those words,
Let’s just leave it like this.

Don’t tell me it’s over,
Don’t tell me we’re through,
Don’t leave me to wonder,
If it’s me or it’s you.

And I miss you,
Now you’re not around,
And I need you,
But you can’t be found.
