Chasing The Dream

Suddenly tomorrow is here,
And something is amiss –
The day is duly dampened,
Why did it end like this?

My thoughts are full of night,
As I fumble through the day,
Catching glimpses, snippets, flashes,
Watching images as they fray.

To unearth the hidden secrets,
Searching the why’s and wherefores,
Simple in its winding stream,
With no end of open flaws.

Leaping through time, and place and reason,
Troubled minds now unaware,
Plotting scenes that now escape me,
Stirring hopes I’d like to share.

Finding time for contemplation,
Looking to what has gone before,
Soaking the silence with a daydream,
Tempting me to want for more.

Dusk has settled slowly,
As the day draws to a close,
My eyes becoming heavy,
As I seek my dream – in doze.

Will you be there once again?
Can I look upon your face?
Shall we dance the whole night through,
In a dream I try to chase?

And in sleep I meet new faces,
Some I know, some yet to meet,
And a new tale is untangled,
Just as bitter, just as sweet.

Very nice wrap up at the end. Gives it a good solid ending without actually writing ‘the end’.

sweet rhyming & rhythm piece….the speaker’s day is quite full…in brooding rumination. a complex & unhappy situation depicted by a the mind of the speaker. definitely stirring the emotions, this one.
    good job.

  4. So nice to dream the dreams we’d wish to dream and not have ones we don’t. 🙂

I love these lines. I can relate to them entirely – people i have met in dream that i’m yet to meet.

Thank you for sharing your work with us. Happy rally!

  10. It is lovely writing. At times though, I felt the rhyme ,scheme had imposed the word choice enough for me to notice and I lost the mood. The rhythm is strong and like a metronome – I wonder how the mood of the poem would be enhanced if it there was a version in free verse.

    • Ah – a true critique of my poem and one I truly appreciate. Firstly thanks for reading my poem, I take on all you have said, although I’ve only ever written in free verse once ( which you can buy on Ether App here http://bit.ly/bpvC84 Caledonia Green) I’m sorry you lost the mood but I hope you enjoyed it anyway 😉 thanks again
